The interview lasted an hour and included 20 minutes of questions, plus general availability questions. Half of the interview involved walking around the shop, learning about products and company policy like fair trade. It felt like a long interview for an entry-level, minimum wage job.

I did an online situational assessment, and about a week later I was asked to schedule an interview. The interview was very casual, right there in the store office. The person interviewing me was really nice and made me feel comfortable. They mostly wanted to learn about me and my availability. The questions they asked were pretty standard, like 'Tell me about a time when you...'. Honestly, it felt like more of a formality; they were more interested in me and my personality. I got an offer over the phone three days after that.

So the interview process for the Co-op team member role kicked off with submitting an online application where I talked about my background and why I wanted the job. After that, I had to do an online assessment to see if my values aligned with Co-op's, which had questions about teamwork and customer service in different scenarios. Once I cleared that first bit, I got to have an interview, either in person or online, with the store manager. During this chat, I was asked things like how I'd deal with tough customers, how I'd work alongside people with different personalities on the team, and how I'd handle being under pressure. Most of the questions were based on real situations and were all about my behavior and character, like asking for times I'd given great service or sorted out a disagreement. After the interview, they let me know how it went, and if it was good, I got an electronic contract and then the usual pre-employment checks.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Tell me about a situation where you went above and beyond for a customer or coworker, and what happened because of it.
