First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Co-op.
Customer Assistant
So I interviewed at Co-op, and they started by giving me some info about the company and the job. Then came the questions, which were pretty much what they had already sent over in a guide. To wrap things up, they asked about when I could start and how I'd get to work.
- What motivates you to want to be a Customer Team Member?
- Could you introduce yourself and explain your interest in working at the Co-op?
- Describe an instance where you cultivated a working relationship with a colleague.
Customer Assistant
I did an online questionnaire that asked about a bunch of store scenarios. It gave me good, but not perfect, results. They said they'd keep me on file but wouldn't move forward with my application. The thing is, companies handle these scenarios differently, and without experience at that specific company, it's hard to know their preferred approach. Maybe I was too lenient on issues like customers being a few pennies short, or maybe not direct enough? It's impossible to say since I didn't get any actual feedback. Honestly, I put a lot of effort into it, but it felt like a waste of time, especially when job hunting already takes so much time. Not getting any feedback for a test that took up my time feels pretty pointless.
- A regular customer wants to buy a newspaper but has forgotten their payment card and is getting annoyed; how do you handle this?
Customer Assistant
I interviewed for a Customer Assistant position at the new Scala Co-op in Bath. The interview experience was not fair, as the interviewer rushed through the formalities and extra information, skipping the main interview questions. Since I wasn't asked for a CV, I was questioned about my previous job experiences. I mentioned past jobs that lacked shopfloor or retail experience. The interviewer seemed rushed and skipped the real questions, probably to save time. They stated I might not be able to answer them due to insufficient experience. I feel this prevented me from highlighting transferable skills from other jobs. It felt like a predetermined rejection, making the whole process a waste of time.
