& Process

I applied in January but didn't get my first screening until August, so that was a long wait. The HR person cancelled the first screening 40 minutes before it was supposed to start because they were sick, and then rescheduled. They didn't show up for the rescheduled call either, so I had to email them to find out what was going on. After that call and a manager interview, which also got rescheduled because the manager no-showed, I had interviews with the account management team and the COO. The interviews themselves were pretty good, and everyone I talked to was nice and seemed interested. The hiring process was really messy, though. The COO told me halfway through our interview that I was actually talking to the wrong team and needed to interview with a different department. Then I heard nothing for two weeks. After that, HR let me know they hired someone else. Communication was spotty the whole time, and it felt like nobody was coordinating with each other.

I first had a phone screening with the recruiter, then a Teams interview with the project manager I’d be working with, and both went well. The next step was an interview with the director. At the end of that interview, she asked if I was married, had kids, or planned to have kids. I was taken aback, and when I asked why, she explained that 3 people were on maternity leave at the same time. I was later invited to a final interview, but I declined to move forward.

The interview had a technical screen focusing on data structures interaction, Java, and SQL, presented as a multiple-choice quiz. It was fair, but be ready for details on how Java works with the OS. There was also a LeetCode-style coding question in the 'Other' section.

So I applied and had an aptitude test, then 4 rounds of interviews. I talked to the recruiter, hiring managers, a director, and even the COO. The whole thing took about 2 months from applying to the final interview. The hiring managers and COO were cool, really interested in me and my background. But even though they all talked up the company culture, the recruiter totally ghosted me after the last interview. I kept asking for updates for a month and just got the same canned response about them still deciding, then... nothing. Super disappointing.
