Project Manager
First, a recruiter called me and screened my profile for about 20 minutes. Then, they set up a 30-minute phone interview with the Director. After that, I had two phone screens, each lasting 30 minutes, and finally, a 5-hour onsite interview.
- Tell me about a time you had to persuade a challenging stakeholder to accept a project change that impacted their department. What steps did you take?
- Can you share an experience where a project had constant changes to requirements without any formal change control? How did you handle it and overcome the difficulties?
- Describe a situation where you had to communicate with stakeholders across all organizational levels. How did your message vary depending on the audience?
Project Manager
I was contacted by a recruiter at CME Group, and we discussed the role, my experience, and my availability for a phone interview. The phone interview with the hiring manager lasted about half an hour and went well. Then, I had an in-person interview that lasted approximately three hours with the manager and five other interviewers. Some of them were quite relaxed, while others came across as very critical and impolite. A significant letdown was that I followed up with both the recruiter and the manager afterward but never received a response. I found this lack of communication to be rather unprofessional and arrogant. Based on other feedback, this seems to be their standard practice, which is quite inconsiderate. I suspect I didn't get the job because I saw someone else update their LinkedIn profile with this job title.

Project Manager
I got a call from HR after someone I know passed my resume along. First, I had a phone chat with HR that mostly involved going over my resume. Then, I was set up for a face-to-face interview with HR and the hiring manager. The HR person asked me some behavioral questions about my past work. After that, I met with the hiring manager and another PM from the same team. This part also involved reviewing my resume and more behavioral questions. It took a couple of weeks of back-and-forth calls, but I eventually heard from HR that they were interested but couldn't make a final decision then. I never got a final word after that and found out they hired someone internally.
- Why are you interested in working for the CME?
