Cleo Communications Software Engineer Interview Questions
& Process

I interviewed with Cleo over almost a month and a half and should have seen the red flags. 1. Nobody showed up for my second round interview because HR scheduled the wrong people. They didn't fix it in time. 2. A week after the second round, I followed up because I was supposed to hear back the week before. I was told their system was broken and they couldn't schedule meetings. It seems they hoped they wouldn't have to explain that their internal systems are so weak. 3. Once the third interview was finally scheduled, they didn't send me an invite. This time the interviewers were there waiting for me, but I was the one who didn't show. I got a call shortly after the interview was supposed to start and was told they tried to send me a meeting, but their system failed again and didn't send it out. I was then scheduled for the next week for the panel. 4. The panel interview was scheduled for an hour, but they had to extend it because an hour in, they hadn't left enough time for their coding question. 5. After the panel, I was told I'd hear back that week. A week and a half later, I got a call that the director of engineering wanted to get lunch. I asked if this was another interview because it seemed odd, but was told it was just a meet and greet. I went to lunch and realized immediately that it was actually another technical interview over sandwiches. I ended up being asked the exact same questions I'd been asked over the past month. It felt strange to still be answering behavioral questions in a surprise fourth round a month and a half in. 6. It took about a week to a week and a half between each round to get a response. HR consistently ignores follow-ups. Overall, it was a very weird process and seemed like there were many communication issues for a company that has "Communication" in its name.

The whole thing took over 5 weeks. It kicked off with a phone screen and a technical interview about 1-2 weeks later. A week after that, there was another technical interview that included a coding assessment. After the coding part, they sent over a personality/aptitude test, and then set up a virtual onsite panel interview with 6 people from the team, seen two at a time for about three hours. They asked for professional references and then just went silent. Even after sending multiple follow-up emails, I still haven't heard back. It's been roughly four weeks since the panel interview and still no response.

The technical round mainly had programming questions. The HR round was mostly about my experiences and included general questions about myself. They also explained the company and its culture. It was a positive experience, and the interviewers were very nice, making for a comfortable time.
