IT Intern
So I had this interview for an IT Intern position, and it was about 30 minutes long. Three people from the company talked to me, asking stuff about my experience in areas like teamwork, training, and my technical abilities. It felt pretty awkward, honestly. It was supposed to be a formal interview, but the hiring manager seemed a bit lost, like he hadn't done this before. One of the interviewers actually went to my university, but he acted like he didn't even know who I was or what I'd done. They said I'd hear back by the end of the month, but it's been two months, and still nothing. I sent a follow-up email thanking them, and then another one six weeks later asking for an update and offering more info. I was feeling pretty good about it because I'd already met with the recruiters, they seemed excited to see me again, and I thought the interview itself went well. It's just disappointing that I haven't heard back at all.

Account Manager
A recruiter reached out to me, and honestly, she was quite unpleasant. Despite that, I managed to get through it. She kept asking strange questions multiple times over a few days, almost like she was trying to find a reason not to hire me. Then I spoke with a different recruiter who asked basically the same questions but was nicer. He had no clue the first recruiter had contacted me until I mentioned it. After that, I had a phone interview with the Regional Manager, which was fine and covered typical sales role questions. Finally, there was a panel interview with my potential manager and a peer. It was mostly standard, but I got the vibe that the peer thought she was way smarter than me and wouldn't have hired me. The interviews themselves weren't hard because I know my stuff and came prepared with a business plan, but the whole process was just a drag.

General Manager
It was a crazy process, or maybe no process at all. A recruiter contacted me for a quick 10 minute chat, they didn't know much about the job, but wanted me to have a phone interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was a nice guy, but a bit manic and arrogant. Then, I had a face-to-face interview where I had to prepare a business plan, which felt like a way to get free local market insights from candidates who really wanted the job. After a good interview, there was silence for a month. I thought they just didn't follow up with candidates they didn't hire. I then reached out to the hiring manager, and the next day got an email saying I was shortlisted for a final interview with senior management. An hour later, the hiring manager emailed to say he was leaving and the role would be filled internally. HR said it was crazy because they are growing fast and recruiting is tough. A new regional GM then restarted the process with a phone interview. Again, silence for 3 weeks. I reached out to the hiring manager with no response. HR then said they went in a different direction, which is fine since I have my own company. So if you want inconsistent communication, managers who can't give direct feedback, and a long, painful process, this is the place.
- Are you too old for this job?
Project Manager
I first connected with the hiring manager directly via email and we had a call the same day. The next day, I had an in-person meeting with her. It took about a week for her to respond as she was narrowing down candidates for final interviews. Then, I went through 6 in-person interviews which took up most of the morning. These interviews were pretty standard and the interviewers, who were quite senior, seemed mostly interested in my cultural fit and genuine interest in the company/role. This might have been because the hiring manager was already confident in my skills and wanted to assess my fit with the team. Overall, it was a positive experience.
- What would be your first week's activities to make a quick impact on the team if you got the job?
