Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Clearco.
Software Engineer
I was initially contacted by an external recruiter. The first interview was a joint session with the Director of Engineering and an Engineering Manager. We discussed my previous projects, with them probing into details such as the technology stack, my specific contributions, and what I might change in retrospect. They also asked follow-up questions about technologies I had listed. Following that, I had a meeting with the VP of Engineering. This discussion was less technical and focused more on the company's vision and allowed me to ask my own questions. My overall impression is that they value personal attributes like attitude, cultural alignment, communication skills, and a willingness to learn.
- Depending on your projects and experience, they will really test how well you understand your work.
- They really challenge you on your understanding of what you've worked on.
Software Engineer
I applied to Clearbanc through Glassdoor in Q1 2019 and they responded quickly to set up the first interview. The office seemed like a fast-paced environment, and they provided lunch. However, I wasn't told who would interview me or what to expect, just that it would be 5 hours. It ended up being 8 hours, which was tiring. The recruiter said I'd get an update in 2 days, but it took 10. One interviewer was disengaged, which made it hard to answer questions. Overall, the Clearbanc interview process was disorganized and felt like a waste of my time.

Software Engineer
The process was pretty easy, took about 2 hours total. Started with a recruiter call, then a 1-hour behavioral chat with the EM, followed by another 1-hour technical interview with some engineers. It all went smoothly technically, but dealing with the recruiter afterward was awful. They totally ghosted me after the last interview, didn't reply to my emails for ages, and then sent a really weak offer. Honestly makes me regret even applying.
- Can you share some of your leadership experiences?
- Describe how you would go about implementing an integration with a third-party client.
