Customer Success Manager
I found the Customer Success Manager position on Indeed and applied because ClearCompany's performance management tool and mission to empower employees through transparency really caught my eye. About a week or two after applying, they emailed me to set up a quick phone interview. Honestly, during the phone interview, I felt like I was leading the whole conversation and wasn't sure who was interviewing who, but it went pretty well – it was more of a relaxed, informal chat. I learned a lot about the role and the pay, and I guess I did a good job selling myself because they invited me for an onsite interview the following week. I was pretty excited about how fast things were moving. I got to the onsite interview about 10 minutes early. The schedule got a bit mixed up because some folks were out sick, but it was still a super relaxed, 2-hour interview process with multiple people. I talked to three different people: one in person and two via Skype to their Boston office. Everyone was really nice and welcoming, which was great. I did find out during the interviews that there are actually different sections to the Customer Success role: Growth, Channel, and Enterprise. They mentioned the interview process was to figure out which role I'd fit best, which I didn't know beforehand. It would've been nice to discuss this during the phone interview so I could've looked into all the positions and prepped for one I thought I'd excel at. The interview style was very conversational and open. I asked them questions about how they operate, and they asked me about how I'd fit the qualities they were looking for. They really focus on sales for this role, wanting to make sure you can cross-sell and hit sales targets, so be ready to explain how you've done that. After talking to two people, they had me do two role-plays. The first was a cross-selling role-play, which is tough if you don't know the product well, so definitely research it and get a basic understanding. They gave me feedback and said I did a great job and was very prepared. Then, I talked more about how I'd be a good fit for ClearCompany and how I value their transparency. We also chatted about management styles and my experiences with good and bad managers. I'm not a huge fan of talking about negative experiences, but I mentioned my first manager out of college and how they weren't great at giving feedback. As the interview wound down, I asked if I'd be a good fit for the original Customer Success role we discussed on the phone, and they said yes. I left knowing the next steps and that I was moving forward. I mentioned I had other offers and needed to hear back soon. They said they'd follow up that day, but I didn't hear anything until Friday. On Friday, I got a call with an offer for the Customer Success - Channel role, even though I initially interviewed for the Growth role. They said the Channel role would be more challenging and exciting, but the base pay was $20k less than the Growth role. This was also something not clarified during the interview. I politely declined, saying the base pay was too low for my experience and asked if I was still considered for the original role. They weren't sure and then I got a call explaining why I wouldn't be a good fit for that role, which contradicted what I was told in the interview. I really think they should be more transparent and set proper expectations, as I was told I was a good fit initially. Hope this helps!

Customer Success Manager
The interview journey started with a phone call that went well and lasted about 40 minutes. Following that, I had an in-person interview at their San Francisco office, which I felt went even better. I met three people there and also had a remote video call with the hiring manager. They were eager to move forward and called the same day to set up the final round. However, coordinating the final interview became challenging due to scheduling issues, with them citing difficulty in finding a time across six calendars. Despite my flexibility and willingness to meet on short notice, a confirmed time wasn't established by the evening before. The next day, I received an email stating I missed a 12pm interview, which I hadn't been formally scheduled for. I explained the communication breakdown, offering to come in immediately if the slot was still open. The hiring manager, who was on vacation, was supposed to follow up the following week. Upon their return, an apology was sent for the confusion, but they stated that because I had reached out to clarify, they had decided to move forward with another candidate. It was disappointing to go through this process and experience such communication issues.

Customer Success Manager
We had a phone screen with the hiring manager first. Then there was an onsite round where I met with several team members, including some current CSMs and the hiring manager. The final round involved a presentation to the hiring manager and other team members, followed by an interview with one of the company co-founders.
