First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Clark Associates.
Senior Software Engineer
The interview had two parts. First, a phone call that was about an hour. The project manager wanted to gauge my skills and how much I knew, and also chatted about the company and office vibe. It wasn't super technical, but we did touch on software patterns and stuff. The second part was an in-person interview plus a code test. The code test came first. You had to take an existing code example and add to it, using things like inheritance and polymorphism. It was planned for up to an hour. After that, a senior dev, the project manager, and the site manager all asked questions. These were about patterns, specific C# stuff they use, and more. I ended up using the whiteboard a lot.
- Can you describe a time you used a design pattern?
- Tell me about your technical skills and how deep your knowledge is.
- What do you know about the company culture and this location?
Software Engineer
I applied online and the hiring manager emailed me the next day. They mentioned that my salary expectations were lower than what they expected for someone with my experience. Their salary range was about average for entry-level in Tampa, maybe even below. I know the market well since I've had offers and talked to recruiters. We couldn't come to an agreement and that was that. No further interviews were conducted. The hiring manager was professional, which I appreciated. It seems like they're trying to hire engineers for cheap.
- What are your salary expectations?
Software Developer
I talked to a manager who explained the role well. Then a developer asked me technical questions for over an hour, which felt too long and difficult. After that, I interviewed with a second manager who seemed to have a really bad attitude. Finally, I spoke with the first manager again, and he outlined a project that I thought was way too big for the timeframe given. I decided not to proceed with the role.
- What's your approach to estimating the weight of an airplane?
