So first round was onsite with a director/principal, they asked resume, technical, and case questions. Then I had a take-home data test. The last round was three interviews: first with a partner about experience and industry knowledge, second with a data scientist about my data test output, and third was an interactive coding test with two engineers. Everyone was super nice and shared their experiences.

I applied for the data scientist role via employee referral and the process wrapped up in a week. I had interviews in NYC. It felt more like a business consulting company than a data science one. There were two interviews in the first round, each lasting about 30 minutes. They didn't ask any data science tech questions, just a lot of behavioral questions and one case study. They mentioned interviewing 5 or 6 people weekly. I got the impression this wasn't a typical data scientist role, and that they used the title broadly, which I found odd. After the interviews, no one followed up or said goodbye, which I thought was rude.

So, first there was a phone call to go over my resume and check if I could think analytically and solve problems. We also chatted about the company and what the rest of the interview process looked like, plus my hobbies. Then, about a week before the next step, they sent over a data challenge. It was this big dataset, like 2GB, with a business problem to solve. I had to come up with a solution based on what I found in the data and then explain my methods and show visualizations. The next round was basically me presenting my analysis, showing I knew my data science stuff and could explain my thought process. I also met with a few other people, including a partner and a director. These chats were pretty similar to the first round, mostly just learning more about the company and the kind of work they do. Overall, I really liked how the interviews were set up, especially the data challenge part.
