First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CJ Affiliate.
Account Manager
The process is very clear, with different HR interviews, a practical case study, and a final interview with my manager (n+1). I particularly appreciated that I was always called back quickly to be informed of the recruitment progress and I always had answers to my questions.
- Tell me about your experience.
- Why do you want to work at CJ?
Account Manager
The communication was a problem. After my final interviews, I asked for an update on a timeline within 4 business days because I was interviewing elsewhere. They agreed, and after 4 days, I heard nothing. I emailed the secretary, who replied, "I'll get you an update." After 24 hours, I emailed the manager I spoke with directly, asking for an update or timeline since I was interviewing with others and needed to be respectful of everyone's time. I received no reply. At this point (10 business days later), I figured I'm no longer a candidate unless they plan to get back to me. My main concern was that this role is all about relationships and client communication. In fact, everyone I interviewed with stressed the importance of client updates, constant communication, and great customer service. It seems they aren't practicing what they preach. While my deadline request might have been pushy, no response whatsoever, especially when I'm taking time off my current job to meet with you, is unprofessional in my opinion. I truly believe this isn't how CJ operates, as I have friends who work there and had great experiences. However, I wanted to share my experience for everyone else.
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult person and your response.
Account Manager
There are a number of hoops to get through.... phone screen with head hunter -> phone screen with internal HR -> phone screen with head of local office -> in person with various people -> presentation. Big things: can you work on a team? Have you worked with big clients? They are really hard to get a hold of to determine if you have made the cut (NOT very professional!). I had to chase the HR and local person at each step to move the process along.
- The presentation was the hardest part since "nothing proprietary" but it had to show strategic thinking and presentation skills. Not sure how you do that without showing something real.
- Their web sharing software did not work, so they had to rig it to work.
- The local office people were nice... some of the directors on the phone were not very professional and were looking for ways to get out of the interview by asking questions in a obnoxious way (makes you wonder how they are in person).
