First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City Year.
Program Manager
So I had three interviews. The first one was a 30-minute phone call. They offered me a second interview the very next day. Then, I had my second interview with the Program Director and another Program Manager. My third interview was with six people from the Impact Team. After the last interview, they told me I'd hear back on Monday and would be asked for references then. But, I didn't get either of those. I spent a month on this interview process and wasn't even given a response after my final interview. I had to assume I didn't get the job. Also, they never asked for my references. They also never told me the salary range, and during the final interview, the Program Director didn't give time to discuss pay or benefits. The start of this process was professional, but that sloppy ending makes me glad I didn't end up with this disorganized organization.

Program Manager
I had a phone interview that was about 30 minutes long with one person. They asked a lot about whether I'd be a good fit for the company and about my experience in the field. They also asked about my decision-making and supervising experience.
- What motivated you to apply to City Year?
Program Manager
Because of my start date, I only did the first interview. It was a 30-minute phone screen. The interviewer was very direct and didn't offer any feedback, cutting me off to ask the next question. They mainly wanted to know my strengths and weaknesses as an employee. I was invited to a second interview the next day, which would have been in person.
- On a scale of 1 to 10, what would your previous supervisors rate you, and why?
- What feedback would they give you on areas for improvement to reach a 10?
- Can you list three of your strengths?
