First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Winnipeg.
Programme Analyst
The interview was conducted professionally by two interviewers. It focused on behavioral questions, general knowledge, and work ethic, and lasted about an hour. The process was straightforward, well-organized, and clearly structured.
- When was the last time you took charge?
Software Developer
First, there was a technical interview where I tackled some coding challenges and system design problems. Then, I went through a panel interview, answering about ten questions related to my past experiences. Finally, they did a reference check.
- Could you design a communication system for a fleet of buses?
Information System Specialist
So the hiring process has two main parts. First, you get a call where they send you an assessment to see if you can even get to an interview. This assessment is all done on paper and covers OOP, database joins and queries, some quick questions, and one big coding question where you have to write a program for a class with multiple methods. After that, if you pass, you have your initial interview. This one is based on the job description, and they mostly just want you to talk about your experience related to what they're looking for. There are three interviewers, and they kind of take turns grilling you, it felt like an interrogation, lol.
- Can you share your experience with designing systems?
- Tell me about your experience managing teams.
- How have you handled resolving issues with team members in the past?
Customer Service Representative
It was a one-stage virtual interview, with standard questions, and one HR representative, maybe because it was an entry-level position. The interview was held in the morning and I got the offer afternoon, the same day. I had been sent a test to complete a few weeks earlier when I applied for the position.
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
- Could you describe a tough situation you faced at work and explain how you managed to resolve it?
- Tell me about a mistake you made at work, focusing on what you learned from it.
