I had a phone screening first, then interviewed with the division manager. The first round was a panel interview with three people from my division. After that, I had an on-site technical skills test. The final interview was with the department manager.

It was a typical interview. Two employees asked me questions from a standard list in a conference room. Most questions were about my background. It was okay, with some small talk. They asked me the same questions multiple times because the same question was on their list in a couple of places and one person couldn't remember my previous answer. They told me the next step was a timed skills test. I never heard about the exam, so I guess they weren't interested. After over a month, I was called back for a second interview with a more senior employee.

I had applied a few times and after the second application, HR contacted me for an initial chat with the direct supervisor. We met within four days, and he asked about my SAP experience, which I'm very familiar with from my last job, and my Excel and Access experience. No test was given. Things went well, so I was called back to meet his manager. This second interview was longer, over an hour, and more focused on Excel, accounting, and city government experience. I even mentioned visiting a city he'd worked in. That interview also went great, and I was invited for another follow-up interview the next week with the same manager and the direct supervisor. This time, they asked more about my past work history, contacts, and references, which I provided. It was a short, twenty-minute meeting. A couple of weeks later, I checked in with the direct supervisor and was told they were still interviewing others. Then HR called with an offer. I countered, they accepted, and I accepted the position.
