Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Citizens of the World Charter School.

The interview process was a bit of a hassle. Since the CMO has multiple schools and a few were interested in me, I had to visit each campus for interviews with the principals. I was required to prepare different lesson plans, and the interviews themselves took a significant amount of time. The whole process could have been managed more efficiently. The organization really needs to be more considerate of people's time.
- What motivated you to apply to our organization?
- Could you describe your strategies for managing student behavior in the classroom?
- Do you feel comfortable discussing sensitive subjects with students in class?

I put in my application on the website and then I had a phone chat with the recruiter that lasted about 10 minutes. I told her that I came from a charter school network that had longer hours than CWC but had the same values of social justice and equity. When I said I was hoping for a school that shared those values but offered better work-life balance, she ended the interview abruptly. She told me that "if you want to work with underserved populations, there is no work-life balance. The education gap is so great that if you want to do this work there is no work-life balance. That's not a thing." While I agree that the work to be done with equity is vast, I don't think that's something to say to an interviewee, or anyone trying to teach and serve underserved populations because great teachers need to take care of themselves to be effective.
- Tell me why you are interested in CWC.
- Can you describe your understanding of project-based learning?
- What prompts your departure from your current position?

Had a first Zoom meeting, then I did a sample lesson in front of a panel. I met three other teachers and some admin. The students were busy with summer camp, so it was hard to get them engaged. I felt like I was interrupting their day.
- How would you integrate AI into your teaching?
