It was a really chill and comprehensive interview. They really wanted to understand who you are and give you space to explain your interest in the position. Overall, it felt pretty simple, and the person interviewing me was nice.

The job was initially advertised as fulltime with benefits, but during the first phone screen, which was rescheduled after being cancelled last minute, I was informed it was actually an eight-month contract role with no benefits. I was given a performance task and a second interview was scheduled. After submitting the task, the second interview was cancelled two days prior by the interviewer, who stated the project timeline had changed and they had hired someone else. This experience made me feel my time wasn't valued, and I won't apply to this company again.

I had a phone call with the principal at first, and we talked about a lot of things I was wondering about, like diversity and student-centered learning. We also touched on equity, how I manage my classroom, my previous jobs, and a bit about the curriculum. Then, I was invited for an in-person interview with the principal and the assistant principal. We met at a coffee shop, and it went really well. We went over all my experience and my approach to classroom management.

I put in my application on the website and then I had a phone chat with the recruiter that lasted about 10 minutes. I told her that I came from a charter school network that had longer hours than CWC but had the same values of social justice and equity. When I said I was hoping for a school that shared those values but offered better work-life balance, she ended the interview abruptly. She told me that "if you want to work with underserved populations, there is no work-life balance. The education gap is so great that if you want to do this work there is no work-life balance. That's not a thing." While I agree that the work to be done with equity is vast, I don't think that's something to say to an interviewee, or anyone trying to teach and serve underserved populations because great teachers need to take care of themselves to be effective.
