First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Citadel Securities.
Intern
I started with an online application where I had to submit my resume, explain why I wanted to join this program, and solve a card-drawing game problem. After that, I had a 30-minute Zoom chat with a current trader. We went over my resume, and I was asked some probability questions involving two bins of balls, mostly about conditional expectation.
- Given two bins, one with x balls and another with y balls, each containing 50% red and 50% blue balls, if we randomly pick a bin and draw two balls without replacement, getting two red balls (RR), which bin was more likely selected?
- For which values of x and y does drawing RR provide the most information?
Intern
I was given a systems design question and then got to ask about the role. The question was okay, but I wish I had prepared more for it since I was expecting a coding challenge and didn't end up with a working solution. The interviewer seemed tired.
- Can you discuss a project from your resume?
- Do you have any questions about this role?
Intern
The interview process started with a HackerRank that wasn't too hard. Then there was an interview with in-depth Javascript questions about the interpreter, which was unexpected since I wasn't told it was technical and the questions were advanced for an internship. They reached out two months later for another interview, also technical but again, I wasn't informed. I had to build a frontend project in an hour, but I hadn't used that specific tech in six months and wasn't told to prepare, so I struggled. I was pretty unhappy because I spent 4 hours total interviewing, but the company took months for the process and didn't provide any info on what to expect.
- Can you tell me what Citadel Securities does?
