Key Account Manager
There were 2 interview stages. The first interview was Q&A, covering the job description and what the role entails. They explained the clients they have and what previous experience would be relevant. The second interview involved a mock presentation where I had to sell services to a client.
- What's your background in selling software?
- Tell me about your past experience in software sales.
- Describe your experience in the software sales field.
Key Account Manager
It started with HR for about 30 minutes, you know, the typical stuff like tell me about yourself and what's your experience. Then the Sales Director hopped on for another 30 minutes, asking about specific situations and for examples from my background. After that, I met one-on-one with the VP of Sales for 30 minutes, who dove into more specific situations, asking me to talk about experiences, both good and bad. I was there for about 1 hour and 45 minutes total, and then the VP walked me out. Less than 24 hours later, the recruiter called to say they weren't moving forward because I was apparently a bit too negative about past work experiences, which is confusing since they asked about the good and bad. It's kind of messed up to have someone meet with three people and then pass because of 'negativity', especially after investing that much time.
- Could you share the challenges you encountered internally and externally at your previous roles, specifically regarding clients and your own team?
Account Manager
I had a phone interview with a recruiter, then spoke with an HR person based in Chicago. The questions were pretty standard for sales roles. The following week, I went onsite. When I got to the office, the receptionist wasn't there to let me in. I tried calling the company, but no one answered. I ended up knocking on the door for about 15 minutes, and finally, someone let me in. I met with two sales managers. The first one seemed really uninterested, like he didn't even like the company, based on his energy level. The second manager had been with the company much longer. He was a nice guy, and we had a good conversation. They asked standard sales questions. Mostly, they want to hear about you and see if you ask the right questions. They also want to know if you're enthusiastic about the company's direction and ask about their future plans.
- Tell me about yourself.
- What questions do you have for us?
- Are you excited about what the company is doing?
