Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cision.
Account Executive
The first part of the interview was a phone call with the recruiter, which went well. However, the subsequent in-person interview with the hiring manager did not go as smoothly. It seemed the hiring manager hadn't looked at my resume beforehand, leading to questions that didn't really connect with my background. For instance, after I mentioned that emailing prospects is often preferred over calling, she asked about my email skills, which felt a bit odd given my journalism experience. I even asked if she’d seen my cover letter as proof of my writing ability, but she hadn’t received it from the recruiter. Another peculiar question was about what I liked and disliked about the job. Naturally, I focused on the positives since I wouldn't be applying if I disliked it. She kept pushing on this, and I started to think she was trying to find people hesitant about the role, perhaps due to high turnover in the NYC office. She also seemed to brush over my questions about career growth and training. Based on this, I gathered that this manager might not offer much in terms of guidance, sales expertise, or support.
- Regarding your communication skills, how proficient are you with email?

Account Executive
The interview process was very straightforward. It started with a recruiter phone screen, followed by a Zoom interview with two sales managers. The final round involved a mock discovery session where I had to "sell" the product to the Director and three managers. Despite the number of people involved, it wasn't intimidating because they were all great. It was a good experience that gave me a clear idea of the job before an offer, ensuring a good mutual fit. They also moved the process along quickly, which was a big plus.
- What qualities do you possess that would contribute to your success in this role?
Account Executive
A recruiter reached out after I applied and then I had a phone call with the hiring manager. It was super conversational and focused on my sales experience and what questions I had for them. The third interview was a panel where I did a role play and then a Q&A. They gave me a prompt beforehand for the roleplay and let me ask questions before it.
- Can you tell me why you chose sales as a career?
- What makes you interested in working for Cision?
- Describe how you typically organize your workday.
