I had a panel interview with experienced nurses, educators, managers, and others I'd be working with. It was straightforward and I got hired as a new grad. I was able to use my CVICU experience from school to answer clinical questions and scenarios.

The hiring process was pretty smooth and fast. I got a response for the role within a week of submitting my application. Then, I was set up for an interview with the hiring managers. I heard back about their decision within a week after the interview.

I applied for a job with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital on their vascular access team and had a phone screening that was pretty standard. After that, I got an invite to meet with the department manager, which I accepted excitedly. The interview was set for 7am, which they said was best for the team and not really optional, but I could make it work. Things got a bit weird when the manager wanted me to meet some of the current team members first, who were just finishing their shifts. I wasn't expecting this and didn't feel prepared. I agreed, and they brought me to the manager's office. Three people came in, and before I was properly introduced, they seemed totally uninterested and like they'd already decided against me. For the next 30 minutes, they asked really condescending questions about my background and dismissed my experience as not good enough. They didn't ask anything relevant to the job; instead, they acted disgusted with me. I've never seen such condescension from one nurse to another, let alone three, until this interview. The manager was a bit better, still seemed uninterested, but I didn't think anything I said would matter after the harsh judgment from his team. It's been a dream to join the VAT at CCH, and that trio crushed it by deciding my nursing history wasn't good enough from their high horse. I'm proud of my work and honestly feel like I avoided a toxic environment.
