Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CIBC.

The interview process had 2 rounds and was completed in under a week. The first round was with 2 directors, and the second was with 3 executive directors. The conversations were generally comfortable and easy-going, though one interviewer did play 'bad cop' for a pressure test. Afterward, there were some casual coffee chats.
- What makes you interested in CIBC?
- Could you explain your interest in corporate banking over investment banking?

This was the worst hiring process ever. It took 3 months and had 4 interviews with different team members. It was so disorganized, with last-minute scheduling. The worst part is that this team doesn't use HR for hiring, the head of the team does it himself. After a lot of follow-ups and delays, they said they'd let me know about the decision, but then they just ghosted me. Really unprofessional for a Big 5 company and disrespectful to someone who put in time and effort. I guess it's a good thing I got an offer somewhere else. The interviews themselves were easy and I thought they went well, but the overall experience was terrible.
- What attracts you to the field of real estate finance?
- Why are you interested in pursuing a career in banking?

The interview process involved three stages. First, they reviewed my resume and cover letter. Then, there was a short call interview with basic, mini-behavioral questions. Finally, a behavioral round that included an elevator pitch, a behavioral question, and a case study. The focus was primarily on behavior, and I think they were more interested in strategy than finance.
- Can you tell me about an achievement you are most proud of?
