So I interviewed for a Product Manager role. The product team is small, like 4 people. First, a recruiter called me to talk about my background, my B2B SaaS and GTM experience, what salary I was looking for, the work environment, and my availability. Then, I had a second call with two people from the product team who would have been my peers. The recruiter told me not to prep anything and that they'd just ask about my specific product manager experience. I talked about my past roles and current work, how I handle ambiguity, and my experience with product development. The conversation felt natural and engaging, and I felt I performed well. A couple days later, I got a generic rejection email. It felt weird because my background seemed like a good fit. I later realized most PMs there came from internal roles like Customer Success, not product backgrounds, making me think they prefer internal hires. If you're an experienced PM wanting growth, this might not be the place as there's limited upward mobility and PM roles seem more like title changes from other functions.

The application process was a bit of a hassle, requiring an account with their ATS. Talent Acquisition reached out fairly quickly (about 2 days) to set up an initial screening. This first call was pretty standard, and the TA rep was nice. The interview with the Hiring Manager felt a bit rushed, like they were just going through the motions. They were a little confrontational when I asked about potential concerns with the company selling to White Collar Tech businesses, and their answer wasn't great. My impression from that chat is that the Hiring Manager might not have much experience interviewing, as the questions felt vague and not very intentional. It seemed like they either had already decided who to hire or didn't really know what they were looking for. As a CSM who advises SMBs on hiring and interviewing, this is my area of expertise, and it was a clear red flag that this leader is inexperienced, especially in the current job market.

The interview process was so quick, comprehensive, and honest from the start! The whole process took a little over a week for me as I requested a more expedited process since I had a competing offer. They were more than happy to accommodate the expedited process for me. I had a phone screen on a Monday, 2 more interviews with managers, then a timed assessment to take from home. I was offered the position the following Tuesday, so overall it took 8 days.

So, I applied online and got a call from a recruiter the next day. We had an initial phone screen, and she was super friendly. After that, I had a joint interview with two implementation team leads. We had a good chat, and it seemed like a good cultural and experience fit. Then, they gave me an assignment to check my client management, communication, comprehension, and troubleshooting skills. The last interview was with a manager, and the questions were a bit harder, but it was still a good conversation. They said the next step would be to provide three professional references before a potential offer. But then, after the final interview, they just ghosted me and I never heard back.
