Product Designer
I had an intro call with a hiring manager and then they invited me to a portfolio review. Sadly, I didn't make it to the paid task stage after the portfolio review.
- Can you describe a time you had to deal with a very unclear task?
Product Designer
So first, before even talking to a person, there was this 70-minute Hackerrank test. It had written stuff, a dashboard design, and a quick one-minute video. After submitting, you just get an automated email. And then... silence. You can't reach anyone, all emails are from no-reply addresses. It's one thing to not hear back after just sending a resume, but this is after putting in 70 minutes of work on a test, using a machine. You'd think a company that can handle a complex test submission would have some way to let candidates know the results. It feels rude and disrespectful.
- Can you design a dashboard?
- Can you design a data visualization element?
- Record a one-minute video response.
Product Designer
It started with a HackerRank test which was pretty easy. Then, I had an interview with the CEO and a Product Designer. They were super friendly and informal, which made me less nervous. I showed my portfolio and talked about my experience. After that, I was given a small project to complete in 2-3 days. The CEO liked my work and I got the offer.
- Can you share your previous experience?
- Could you tell us about a project you recently worked on?
- What was your process for working on this project?
