Management Trainee
This company has a terrible interview process. First, there was a 5-minute preliminary interview where they said the position is super competitive and I was 1 of 30 people interviewed that day. The hiring manager said they were choosing the top 10 like American Idol and to keep my phone on between 4-6 PM for a call about a second interview. I got the call, and they said the hiring manager was impressed. The second interview was the next day and involved spending the entire day with a top account manager at a client's location (Best Buy), which they didn't tell me beforehand and warned me not to ask any questions about the position to a current trainee who was present. I had to pay for my own transportation (red line and bus). I was given a 20-page "Observation Day" packet with my name on it and told to sit in front of the TVs at Best Buy to fill it out, spending 40 minutes per section which only took 15 minutes. There was no actual interviewing, just filling out a packet with marketing and management style questions. They didn't take me to lunch until 3:30 PM (I arrived at 10 AM) and I had to pay for my own lunch. During lunch, they revealed the pay and that the position structure is like a pyramid/ponzi scheme. Don't waste your time.

Marketing Assistant
The first interview was pretty short and sweet, mostly covering my past work duties and future aspirations. After that, I was invited to an open day where I shadowed an employee. I was paired with someone who had only been there for about 8 months, but she was really knowledgeable and seemed to know her stuff. While she explained what they do for their clients and showed me around a Wal-Mart location, I had to fill out a packet of questions. It was pretty straightforward, similar to things I've done in retail before. She encouraged me to ask questions since she'd be giving the manager feedback on my day. The atmosphere was fun, and the other person with her was nice too. Later, she talked about how quickly people can get promoted and mentioned that pay is either base plus commission or just commission. Overall, it was a good day, but I wish they had been clearer in the first interview about not being able to work full-time, as she mentioned it would slow down my advancement. After heading back to the office, we went our separate ways.

Marketing Advisor
I got a call from a Vegas number, it was the head of HR for Peoria. She wanted to chat for 2 minutes, and I said yes. She told me she hand picked my resume and wanted me to meet the CEO. We talked about our kids, she was super friendly and invited me in for the interview. I checked out the business online, their website, mission statement, it seemed like a solid business. I went in and filled out paperwork for about 30 minutes. Shannon, the HR lady, was funny and energetic. She gave me paperwork and explained it. Then I met Ethan, the CEO, who is very young and charismatic. He told me about the business and their goals. I then had a second round interview. I thought another candidate would get the call back, but I did! This company is awesome, they value individual drive and determination over exterior appearances. It was a great experience!
- In your ideal scenario 5 years from now, what would you be doing?
Customer Service Representative
Got to the office and had to fill out some paperwork before waiting. My wait was about 30 minutes, but I saw someone else who had been waiting about 2 hours before I even arrived. The interviewer seemed nice and I was invited for a second interview. However, I'd read some reviews beforehand and thought it was a bit weird for a customer service job to require a whole day out. So, I decided not to go to the second round.
- In five years, where do you envision yourself being?
