Software Engineer
The hiring process kicked off with two super easy LeetCode technical questions. Right after that, we had a chill, conversational culture interview. The whole thing was pretty simple and easy, and it gave me a good idea of what an intern would be doing technically.
- In what ways can you contribute and make a positive impact at CHG?
Software Engineer
The whole thing started with a recruiter call, which was pretty rough. The recruiter basically told me all the reasons I wasn't a good fit, not just for CHG but for my job search in general. Even though they were gonna recommend me for a hiring manager interview, they said it was unlikely the manager would even want to talk to me because of these weaknesses. So by the end of that, I was feeling pretty down about my chances with CHG and basically everywhere else. But, I did end up talking to the hiring manager. It was a mix of getting to know each other and some general tech talk. We ended up talking about something that wasn't even in the job description and they said it wouldn't be part of my evaluation. Still, I thought that part went okay, and so did the rest of the interview. Then on Monday, the recruiter called to say I didn't get the job. They said it was because of that exact topic we talked about, the one they said wasn't part of the job or my evaluation. On top of that, they also mentioned the decision was made right after the interview, with no further discussion. I feel like there was a lot of BS about why I got rejected, but the recruiter was the main issue. It's not their job to make me feel good, and maybe they thought they were being transparent, but they could have left out some unhelpful details. Telling a candidate they're unlikely to move forward even though you're recommending them (which makes you wonder why you're even there), that there are a lot of things working against them in their job search, and making it clear that the decision was rushed and thoughtless are things I wouldn't expect. I've spoken with many recruiters, but this is the first one I felt the need to review.
- Can you discuss your general technical knowledge?
Software Engineer
The first interview I was pretty nervous. However, the manager was nice and personable, they called me back that day for a second interview. The second interview was a little more disorganized, I was supposed to meet with a few different people but they didn't show up, so I proceeded to do the whiteboard questions with the two people who did. I was called for a third interview shortly after, the next one is where I got to meet the team, I was told that I had passed the hard parts. This interview went terribly, first I met with the team and they introduced themselves, however it was a grill fest after, technical questions I was told I wouldn't have at this stage. The manager I had already met and passed two interviews with seemed distracted and played on his phone the entire time. I had more whiteboarding and they had me solve the same problems I had already done. In the end they told me I wasn't senior enough for the position and was asked if I would take a lower salary, I agreed but then they decided that they didn't want me anymore. Very unprofessional. No feedback and three useless interviews of whiteboarding to get to the end and have it fall down.
