& Process

The first round was an onsite group interview with about a dozen other candidates, facilitated by junior consultants. It started with a 30-minute presentation about Chartwell. Then, there was an hour-long group case study where we had to identify the root cause of a problem in a manufacturing process and present it, focusing on teamwork and suggestion quality. We could ask three questions to the interviewers. After the case, there were two 15-minute quizzes, one math and one mechanics. Then, we had 45 minutes individually to read and answer questions about another manufacturing line case, focusing on industrial engineering aspects like throughput and cycle time. This was followed by lunch and then one-on-one interviews. The first 30-minute one-on-one was to discuss the individual case answers. The second one-on-one started with feedback on the group interview, followed by a brain teaser and a couple of fit questions. The second round was a 2-hour event with partners and a senior consultant, involving another industrial/manufacturing engineering-focused case study about inputs and outputs with basic calculations. Afterwards, they asked why I wanted to work there, about consultant attributes, a detailed complex project, and how to understand an unknown mechanical system, with time for questions. This round was more rigorous, with partners putting us under pressure. My overall impression of the company was not good; they're a small, new company in the industrial sector expecting commitment like top firms (MBB) but with lower pay and fewer incentives. One partner's swearing was also off-putting.

The interview day had 2 tests, a group case study, then an individual case study. They finished with fit questions and a brain teaser. The individual case study was too complex, I felt there wasn't enough time to really think it through. The people were nice, but it felt competitive and was pretty draining overall.

Attended a presentation day in Cambridge which included a standard mechanical and numerical reasoning test. The following week, I was invited to another assessment day, also in Cambridge. This day began with a brief company presentation, followed by a group case study focused on a manufacturing business. We were given several pages of information and had to make quick decisions, with time management being crucial. Next, I completed a 1-hour individual written case study that was heavily math-focused. It involved a described process with all numerical data provided, and the main task was to perform the correct calculations. After that, I had an interview with a partner where I presented my approach to the individual case study within 5 minutes and then answered follow-up questions. The questions were challenging, but the interviewer offered hints to guide me. Finally, there was another interview involving a brain teaser and general questions, which was a very positive experience.
