The interview structure at ChartHop is pretty standard for software engineering roles, with a recruiter call, a tech screen, an onsite loop, and a final VP call. They really excel at executing it, though. The loop questions were directly relevant to the actual work, making their purpose clear. I had the chance to interact with various team members across different levels, ask my questions, and get a good look at the tools I'd be using. All the interviewers were approachable and happy to answer questions, which gave me a solid understanding of the company and boosted my confidence about the fit.

I had a lot of interviews over the course of a month. It would have been better if they could have streamlined it to not take so long. Most of the interviews were nice, enjoyable experiences. It's the pair programming challenge that really made the whole process worse. I don't have a ton of experience with pair programming, but I thought it was weird that the interview was 2v1. And to make an already stressful experience even more stressful, one of the engineers made a comment about ganging up on the candidate - even if they were trying to be funny, it wasn't professional. I also found it hard to concentrate with two different engineers trying to ask about my thought process. I couldn't get the time I needed to come up with a solid plan. It was hard, and I know I didn't perform as well as I could have that day, but I know I could have done better if the circumstances had been different.

Confirmed questions2 questions

  • Do a pair programming exercise where you review data and perform operations to get specific items.
