First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Charming Charlie.
Sales Associate
The interview was pretty short, only about 20 minutes, and I talked with both the general manager and the assistant manager. They asked about my past work in customer service and sales. There was a part where they wanted me to pick out a fun outfit, and I guess I didn't do great because I didn't add many accessories. They finished by asking about my availability and said they'd call me back either that day or the next, but I never heard from them.

Sales Associate
I had 2 interviews for Charming Charlie. The Assistant Manager interviewed me first and asked generic retail questions. The General Store Manager interviewed me the second time and it was similar to the first. The AM was very insistent on finding someone who was "drama free" and mentioned rude people she had interviewed before, which was odd. It turned out the managers were the main source of drama, being aggressive with sales and constantly criticizing performance over walkies. This made it nerve-wracking to talk to customers, especially with social anxiety, as it made me feel inadequate the entire shift. Charming Charlie was the worst retail company I've worked for, needing to tone down aggressive selling and learn to go with the flow.
- Can you share an instance of a great customer service experience you've had?
- How would you describe your personal style?
Sales Associate
The interview process was a single round where I met with the hiring manager at the store location in a quiet section of the mall. There were two other people applying for the same job. The dress code was all black, and I was told to accessorize but keep it presentable and not too outrageous, making sure any jewelry or clothing accessories matched and looked good. I don't remember all the questions asked, but even though I didn't have prior sales experience compared to the other two applicants, my curiosity, honesty, big smile, and calm, cheerful, and excited demeanor were highlighted as a big plus for the role. This personality and presentation led to me getting the job offer soon after, while the others did not.
- How would you handle an impolite customer?
