Behavioral Technical Case

A recruiter from Chanel reached out about a supply chain planning role. I had a long call with the recruiter on a Saturday. On Monday, we exchanged emails and set up a meeting for Tuesday. I went to their NYC office and met with the hiring manager and a demand planner. I felt that meeting went well as I have experience in the role, its responsibilities, and the software. My last meeting was with the Director of HR. My meeting was delayed because of scheduling errors by Chanel. I waited about 45 minutes in the lobby with a great view of Central Park. When I met the Director, she apologized for being in another meeting and immediately pointed out areas on my resume that needed improvement, telling me not to leave without discussing them. This didn't make me feel good about my chances. I learned the Director thought I lacked knowledge of the luxury goods market and dismissed my supply chain planning skills and experience before we even met. The meeting continued with typical interview questions and a resume review. I couldn't convince the Director that I manage numbers and validate them with others in the organization as part of the planning process. I left the interview knowing I could do the job but wondering why I was invited. I told the recruiter about the meeting and my thoughts on how it went. My follow-up emails and voicemails to the recruiter were not answered. Three weeks later, the Director of HR told me I was no longer being considered.

I was contacted directly by my future manager after applying online. We had a 10-minute phone call, and she said HR would reach out. As expected, I had an hour-long interview with HR, but they never contacted me afterward. I'm surprised a renowned company like this doesn't notify candidates when they're not selected; it's the least they could do. What shocked me more was learning that confidentiality wasn't respected. A colleague mentioned he also interviewed for the same role, and Chanel told him someone else from his company applied and gave them my name! So unprofessional.

The hiring process had two main parts. First, I chatted with HR over the phone about my background, why I wanted this role, and my understanding of what it involves. Then, I met with the supply chain manager for a discussion covering technical aspects like flow management and performance metrics (KPIs), plus some practical scenarios about making logistics more efficient. It felt like a friendly and professional conversation.
