First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chandler Unified School District.
Teacher
A school secretary will call you to set up an interview. You might be interviewed by a panel of grade-level teachers and the principal, just the principal or deans/assistant principal, or a principal or deans/VP with a specialized program teacher, or perhaps only by specialized program teachers, whatever works best for their schedules. If they want to hire you, they'll offer you the job in about 1-2 days. If not, expect an email saying no within 3-5 days or maybe longer.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What's your teaching philosophy regarding specific subjects or approaches?
- Tell me about your experience with a particular demographic or student group.
Teacher
It took a bit to get an interview set up. As usual with these districts, the whole application thing is a long haul: submitting forms, paperwork, transcripts, recommendation letters, and so on. I had an initial chat with HR, and then they called me in for interviews at two different schools. The first school interview went pretty well, so they set up a second one. But before that second interview could happen, I actually got a job offer from another school nearby during an interview there.
- What's your approach to connecting with our diverse Hispanic community?
Teacher
I was interviewed by the Principal and then the team. Then I was offered the job. I declined my renewing contract at my current school with the intention to transfer. I waited all summer to hear back from HR. In the meantime, I was calling them regularly, emailing, and staying in touch with my principal. A few days before I was due to report, I finally heard from them and my job was given to a displaced teacher leaving me unemployed. I am VERY disappointed with Chandler!
- How do you handle student behavior?
