We started with a quick phone screen that led to an invite for a group interview with about 20 people, lasting around 2 hours. The main things they were looking for were a passion for food and a caring attitude towards people. We did some arts and crafts and then a "resume" presentation where I used it to quickly talk about my background and my love for food. Afterwards, we worked with a partner on scenarios to figure out customer service issues. There was also a food identification quiz with 10 items, which was pretty tough because some were unusual, but the advice was to just do your best using smell, taste, and touch, and show genuine interest. Following the group session, I got a call for a 1-on-1 meeting with the manager, which was a more typical 30-minute interview. They were firm on pay, with no room for negotiation, so it was essentially a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

Exactly like you described in terms of the group interview, etc. One thing I would mention is that our group was pretty quiet and the interview went quickly. I understand that sometimes you get a very verbal group and it takes much longer.

I applied for a job at CM on a whim. I was bored with my corporate job and since I'm a foodie, I thought working at CM could be a good future for me and a rewarding job. The pay was minimum wage, though. The first interview was a panel interview with multiple candidates. We had to recreate our resumes using colored markers and paper, highlighting why we'd want to work at CM. Then, they brought out some unusual vegetables, and we had to identify them. I could identify all but one, and was surprised that most other candidates, even those with experience at HEB, didn't do well. Next, they brought out spices and herbs for us to identify by tasting and smelling. I got them all right. After that, we had to do an impromptu presentation about one of the spices/herbs and how it could be used. My foodie background helped me ace this. Then, we were paired up with another candidate. One of us played a CM employee and the other a customer. The scenario was a customer bringing back a fish from Costco that smelled stale. My partner said the customer couldn't return it because it wasn't bought there, but CM's policy is to replace it regardless of where it was purchased or what bag it's in. The second interview was a 1:1 with a manager and the section leader for the role. They asked hypothetical and background questions. I was asked how long I would stay, and I said as long as it takes, mentioning my interest in advancement and becoming a buyer. This is likely why I got a rejection letter two weeks later.
