First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Centene.
Intern
It was a pretty standard interview process, just one interview. They asked about my past experience, projects I'd done in school or at work, and wanted me to talk through how I think about things and some conceptual stuff. The questions were all pretty spot-on for what the role needs, focusing more on skills than behavioral stuff.
- Could you introduce yourself and share your experience?
- Could you talk about your previous work experiences?
- Could you walk me through your past projects from school or previous employment?
Technology Intern
I interviewed with 2 managers from different departments at the same time. They asked me some very easy technical questions, followed by many more behavioral questions. Next interview was with an HR rep. Asked me purely behavioral questions. Next interview was with a manager from another department. Asked me to briefly introduce myself, then talked to me at length. One of the managers couldn't make it, so we scheduled a phone interview for the next week. Didn't ask me any technical questions, asked questions about whether or not I thought I was a 'good fit' for the position. I got a call from the people doing the background check after the interviews, so I figured I was going to get an offer, and a few hours later, I got the offer.
- Can you write a basic SQL query?
- What's the correct way to terminate an if statement in a shell script?
- Tell me about a situation where you applied innovation to overcome a challenge.
Intern
Got contacted pretty fast after applying and they set up an interview real quick. Super nice folks to chat with. It felt a bit intimidating at first 'cause 3 people were asking me stuff. Just make it clear you vibe with the company's values and that you genuinely love what you do. The questions were honestly really basic behavioral ones. If you look up the simplest questions out there and practice them, you'll totally nail it. They're quick to answer any emails you send too. Don't forget to have some questions ready to ask them at the end, they really dig that!
- In what ways do you align with the requirements of this role?
- Describe a situation where you dealt with team conflict.
- Can you share some details about yourself and your history?
