First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CBS News and Stations.
Intern
They had a first round where you record yourself giving answers to pre-recorded questions and a second-round, live interview. In the second round one, the interviewer started off the interview by saying they were at the very end of the hiring process and all the internship positions were basically full already, which is exactly what you want to hear before an interview that you've prepared for and are excited about. - Why do you want to work here?

After submitting my application at a job fair, I was invited for an interview a couple of weeks later. It turned out to be a group interview with about 10 candidates and one interviewer. We had to complete a grammar test and a current events questionnaire. The interviewer then collected our test results, recommendation letters, resume, and cover letter. After that, each person was interviewed individually in front of the group. I think it's important to show enthusiasm and discuss skills from previous experiences. Some people without prior news jobs were offered internships, so confidence in your skills is key.
- Can you share a current event that's newsworthy?
Intern
I applied on the CBS website and they reached out before the application deadline for an online interview. This interview had some multiple-choice questions and then some video responses to open-ended questions. You get a minute to prep and two minutes to answer. It wasn't super hard, but might be a bit tricky if you haven't done this kind of interview before.
- Why are you interested in CBS?
- Can you name the host of the CBS Evening News?
- Identify the individual who has not anchored the CBS Evening News from the options provided.
