I was contacted via recommendation email and the whole process moved really quickly, only about four days between that and the interview. The place was easy to get to, but I did have to wait a bit after arriving, which is normal for a newsroom. The interview itself felt pretty casual, like the interviewer thought it was just a formality. We talked about salary expectations pretty early on.

The first step was a phone chat where I talked about my past TV and producing work, my future hopes, and some general stuff about my life and why I wanted this job. Then, I had an in-person meeting with the Broadcast manager. I showed them my reel of past productions and we had a long talk where I discussed my abilities, my previous jobs, and what I could bring to CBS News. They also had me write a brief news story using a made-up AP report.

I had a long call with the HR rep, but it didn't lead anywhere. The rep mentioned they were passing my application to the hiring manager, but I never got an interview with them. They eventually told me I didn't get the job. It was pretty hard to get into this role.
