First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Casper.
Data Analyst
I applied online and then a month later I was asked to do a data challenge which involved an analysis and coding piece. Then I was contacted by the recruiter for a phone interview. We exchanged emails to schedule and the recruiter used the wrong name. The first phone interview was an HR screening and after that I was asked for my availability for a second round phone interview with a team member. This interview was the next day and had more technical and hypothetical questions. The interviewer was surprised I only knew basic Python, though the job description said R or Python was preferred and I have good R experience. After the interview, I sent three unanswered emails and then got a response 1.5 weeks later saying I would hear back soon. A week after that, I was told I was no longer being considered. The recruiter got my name wrong, interview details wrong, and was unresponsive.
- Analyze the provided dataset and determine if the return rate is trending upwards or downwards.
- Create a SQL query to count the number of completed orders per date.
Data Analyst
First there was an exam to test SQL and Excel skills, then a phone screening with HR, followed by a phone screening with a real team member, and finally an on-site interview. The whole process was really friendly and nice, and the questions were pretty standard and really depended on how you answered them. Overall, it was a really good interview experience!
- What makes you want to leave your current company to join Casper?
- Could you tell me about the biggest challenge you've encountered in your data analysis career so far?
Data Analyst
They gave me this small data set to work on and asked if a certain response was trending up or down. It was really straightforward, and I felt like I went above and beyond what they asked, but it still wasn't enough. I'm not sure what else they wanted with such a straightforward question and a small data set. It wasn't like I could implement a machine learning algorithm -- it was that simple. I'm at a loss.
- Did you observe the rate trending up or down?
- Please write the SQL code you would use to retrieve this information from the data.
