Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Carrier.
Management Trainee
The first round involved an aptitude test. This had 15 questions on logical reasoning, basic math, and puzzles. Then there were 10-12 questions on core ECE fundamentals which were pretty simple. Finally, there were five programming questions that were MCQs where I had to pick the right output. The fourth round was a techno-managerial interview. We started with introductions. Then it was mostly about my resume, discussing my internships in detail - my roles, how I worked with the team, and my projects. We also covered OOPs concepts. They asked a lot of behavioral questions, like how I handle setbacks and manage projects without seniors. They also asked about my strengths for the role and any weaknesses.
- How do you approach dealing with setbacks?
- What's your strategy for handling projects when you don't have senior guidance?
Manager
Started with the hiring manager which went well. Then a cross-functional team interview where they weren't paying attention and asked repetitive or similar questions. My questions during Q&A were also not answered. The information provided across the three interviews (TA, HM, and Cross-team) was inconsistent, and there was a lack of clear requirements and alignment by the end. This suggests unprofessional behavior and miscommunication from the cross-functional team.
- Can you share your most significant past accomplishments?
Proposal Manager
I applied because I was recruited via LinkedIn even though I didn't meet the listed requirements. I had two interviews before I was told I wouldn't be moving forward. They were looking for someone with experience as a proposal manager, people manager, transformation consultant, and mechanical engineer, which seemed like a lot for the salary range (~$120k). It sounded like a cool company though - small, agile, innovative. It was a good experience to see what the market is like right now.
- What's your approach to managing an under-performing employee?
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
- Can you share your experience with putting process improvements into practice?
