First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Carpetright.
HRIS Implementation Consultant
I had a telephone call from one of their team as an initial phone screen. Clearly the person had never even scanned over my CV before calling as they were completely clueless of my background and got short with me on the call when I was referencing a previous employer that they couldn’t see on my cv and I had to tell them where to find it.

Store Development Coordinator
Carpetright reached out to me for this role, and I applied. They scheduled the interview with very little notice. On the day, it started late. They didn't talk much about the job itself, just asked if I'd seen any of their new stores. I hadn't. Then, the interviewer mostly spoke about their own role and why they liked it, rather than conducting a proper interview. The first real question was the classic 'tell me about yourself,' which I find to be a lazy question, as some people prefer to talk about their professional value rather than their personal life, especially since it's not a sales role! After that, I left. About two weeks later, I received a call asking me to come in for a second interview, with no preparation needed as it was just a 'refresher' for them due to the number of candidates they'd seen. Three weeks after the initial interview, the second one was booked. This time, it started on time. The interviewer seemed preoccupied and sent me to talk to a team member about their job. The interviewer then left me with them, which was awkward. When the interviewer returned, they asked if I had questions. I did, and I thought my research on the company's success would impress them, but they were more concerned if I had visited a store since our last chat. I hadn't, as I was busy and preferred to research online rather than waste time gawking at their store. Over a week later, I was still waiting for a response, which was very frustrating. I tried calling for feedback, but no one answered. Within an hour, I got an email stating I wasn't successful, but they invited me to apply for other roles. There was another job I was more interested in, better suited to my skills. They said they'd put me forward for it, but they never did, and I never heard back. A complete waste of my time, and I'm quite disgusted.

Contact Centre Advisor
Applied via the app, heard back from the recruitment team manager in a couple of days. He called to set up a video interview on Microsoft Teams, sent a confirmation email with job description and interviewer info. The next day (Wednesday), he called again about immediate start positions and asked if I could interview sooner for a start the following week. Rescheduled for that Friday with a new email confirmation. Interviewed with the retail director, it was informal and relaxed. Asked about my experience, skills, interest in the role, and some situational questions. Lasted about 40 minutes. Had chances to ask the director questions. Heard back an hour later with a job offer.

Learning and Development Specialist
The first phone call was nice and friendly, but the interview process was kind of a joke. They basically wanted me to design an online learning module for free, but they tried to pass it off as interview prep. I ended up cancelling the interview. They asked me to instructionally design the first section of the module. It felt like they were using interviews to get free work done, which isn't okay.
- Could you tell me about your experience creating online learning content?
