First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Carnegie Mellon University.
Administrative Coordinator
I had a zoom interview after applying and got a response quickly. The interview covered general questions, plus details about the university, the specific college, and the job duties. While I think it went well, they needed someone to start right away, which was tough for me as a college student looking for post-grad work.
- Describe how you handle stress or problems that come up during events.
Program Coordinator
There were two parts to the interview process. If the interviewers liked your performance in the first part, you'd proceed to a second part with different team members. The interviewers were a very nice, friendly, open, and welcoming group. They didn't appear judgmental and seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs. It seemed like a great team environment where they wanted to make sure you felt comfortable.
- What motivates your interest in this role?
- Is a 3-5 year commitment feasible for you in this position?
Administrative Coordinator
The hiring process spanned two months from the initial HR call to a subsequent in-person meeting with the hiring manager, which is typical for academic roles. The interviews were relaxed, featuring a few standard questions without any awkwardness. Following the interview, HR discussed benefits and salary expectations.
- How would you handle a challenging colleague?
