First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CareerBuilder.
Account Executive
I applied via LinkedIn and a recruiter called me right away. She was really nice and made the role sound great, so I agreed to an interview the very next day. I arrived 15 minutes early, and the hiring manager came out a bit after the scheduled start time. He said he was busy and hadn't reviewed my resume or prepped for the interview. I showed him my prepared questions and company research, and he seemed surprised I knew so much about CareerBuilder. He then cut the interview short to 30 minutes, just wanting to get a general sense of who I am. The whole experience was unexpectedly bad, especially since I'd read good things online. I wouldn't recommend this company.

So far I have only done the first round with the internal recruiter (over the phone). The second round has been scheduled and will be a second phone interview with one of the sales managers. The first one was over an hour and I thought it was a little excessive in length and detail. I think I will decline moving forward as the salary is rather low ($35k) for a "senior" position.
- Can you tell me about the distribution of your sales experience between outside and inside sales?
- How many contacts do you typically aim to establish within a client account?
- Could you describe your value proposition and your typical sales process?
Account Executive
There were 3 interview rounds total. First was a phone screen with the recruiter, then a phone screen with my future manager, and finally an in-person interview with three managers. I was supposed to prepare a presentation on two of their products, but it was never brought up. They really want to gauge your phone presence because a lot of the job involves talking to people on the phone.
- Are you a competitive person?
- What motivated you to pursue a career in sales?
- Describe your ideal work environment.
