Software Engineer
I saw the Senior Software Engineer role on LinkedIn and applied through the website. About a week later, Shane the recruiter reached out via email to set up an initial phone call. This first chat was pretty casual, covering my background and what I'm looking for. Shane also gave me a good rundown of the company and the job. The whole interview process has three stages and was wrapped up in under 10 days. First up was a behavioral chat with the Engineering Manager. We talked about my past work, why I want to work at Care.com, and how I fit with their values. Then came a system design interview with two senior engineers, which lasted about 90 minutes. They really dug into my decisions with follow-up questions at every step, which felt like they were testing my problem-solving skills and how I build solutions. It was a really collaborative session. The last interview was with a Director and felt more like a relaxed conversation. We discussed my views on technology, AI, and some behavioral stuff. It seemed like they were more interested in my thought process than getting specific answers. All through the interviews, the vibe was really casual and natural. Everyone seemed genuinely keen to understand why I wanted to join Care.com and if my thinking matched their needs. All the team members were open, helpful, and supportive. Big thanks to Shane for making everything run so smoothly; he kept me updated and made the process really clear.
- How do you handle multiple priorities that are all important?
Software Engineer
The recruiter was quite rude and didn't seem to know much about the job. She messed up the time zone, then cancelled last minute on a day we weren't even supposed to have a meeting. The actual meeting was tense. She immediately pushed for hybrid work, then asked things already on my resume. She kept interrupting me, said I was underqualified for stuff I was overqualified for, and then mentioned they were probably hiring someone else. She seemed really hung up on my supposed lack of SQL experience and said I wasn't a fit because they weren't looking to modernize. I actually have way more database experience than they asked for, and their job description even mentioned modernization. When I brought up SQL stuff like EF, ORMs, and LINQ, she got angry instead of understanding. Same with talking about old frameworks and how they impact functionality and security. I barely got one question in before she cut me off, thanked me, and told me to check their job boards. Maybe after they do an HR audit.
- Can you tell me about your years of experience with ASP.NET Web Forms?
Principal Software Engineer
Recruiter pinged me on LinkedIn, and I had some questions before setting up a call. The recruiter was quick to respond and answered everything in chat. The first call was with the recruiter, about 30 mins talking about the company's growth, the role details. He was really informative and upfront. He gave me feedback and set up a call with the org lead. That was a 45-minute technical call. Then I met two engineers for a live technical assessment. The team was cool and tried to make it a collaborative vibe. The last call was 30 minutes with the hiring manager. It was moderately tough and took a bit over a week. The recruiter kept in touch and even sped things up to match my other interviews.
- Tell me about the company's growth plans.
- Can you provide specifics about this role?
- Can you elaborate on high-level development questions?
