Technical Support Engineer
I was hoping for a complete career change, but they really seemed to dig for personality and attitude problems, and I really bombed the whole experience. My first visit for a test was very friendly and positive, so I was pretty relaxed going into the actual interview; the second one, I felt like they were on the offense, trying to find something wrong. I've never had someone probe 'what I meant' by an answer. One of the interviewers looked down the whole time and didn't make eye contact, which was very unnerving.
- Tell me about instances where you have disagreed with others and how you've handled it.
- What did you mean by your previous answer?
Technical Support Representative
I contacted a recruiter whose business card I got from a local career center. He picked up right away and didn't send me to voicemail. After reviewing my profile and resume, he sent me a link to do some testing and fill out an application. I finished them within the hour and called back to schedule a phone interview. The recruiter was available immediately and asked several customer service questions. He said he was happy to move me forward to a 1-on-1 interview the next morning, noting that a new training class was starting in 5 days.
- How would you define excellent customer service?
Technical Support Representative
So the HR guy first greeted me, and we just chatted for a bit about the role, and then he had me shadow one of the current reps to see what the day-to-day is like. After that, we met up in a meeting room, and I interviewed with the HR person and a supervisor from the team. To wrap things up, I had to complete some tests on a computer.
- Tell me about a time you dealt with an angry customer.
- How do you ensure you pay attention to details while on calls?
- What's an acceptable number of missed workdays within a six-month period?
