I had an initial phone screen with HR that seemed to go really well, we actually talked for twice as long as we were supposed to. Then I had an hour-long video call with the hiring manager, which also seemed to go really well. He mentioned the HR person would follow up soon. And then... nothing. I waited over a week and then emailed the HR guy, and still nothing. So, I guess it didn't go as well as I thought? It's fine, I'm an adult and can handle rejection, but I really dislike the silence and lack of feedback. A simple 'sorry, we decided to go with another person' from HR would be much better than being ignored. I still plan to apply for other positions at Carbon Black, but this experience really sucked. They should do better!

This interview process was super quick for me. I ended up having 10 interviews total (4 phone calls and 6 in person) all within 8 days. The first couple of phone interviews were with the recruiter and the hiring manager, and they were really nice and seemed genuine, which was great. The next two phone interviews were a bit more technical, but they went fine too. Everyone was pretty friendly and easy to chat with during these. The in-person part kicked off a bit tough with a senior engineer really digging into some technical stuff, and I had a moment where I couldn't recall things, but I took some deep breaths and got back on track. After that, the rest of the in-person interviews were pretty smooth sailing, talking with two more engineers, two managers, and HR. Honestly, I think it all went pretty well. The interview room had a nice view of the trees and reservoir, and everyone was really accommodating.

So first I had a quick chat with the recruiter, then a technical video interview with an engineer. After that, they flew me out to their main office for the onsite interviews. The onsite had 4 interviews, each covering something different like technical skills, coding ability, how I'd fit culturally, and behavioral questions. Everyone I met was super nice and the interviews felt like casual conversations, which was really great.

  • Following up on your experience, can you elaborate on the technical aspects of those projects?
