First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Capital One.
Strategy Manager
Four rounds total. First, a screener with HR. Second, a mini case. Third, a super day with case interviews (two quant cases and one product case). Fourth, a meeting with the hiring manager. The interviews are as noted across forums, but definitely know breakeven formula for casing.
- What's the breakeven for this product?
Strategy Analyst
I was asked seven questions, some harder than others, but overall it was quite challenging. It wasn't the typical 'Why do you want this role?' type of question. You really need to know about the firm's current strategies for reaching the everyday consumer.
- What are some ways the business can leverage advertising to increase growth?
- How can the company's current strategies be adapted to appeal more directly to the average consumer?
Strategy Analyst
So first, there were these maths and verbal tests. After that, I got a link for an online recorded video-interview. This had 2 motivational questions, like asking why I wanted to work at Capital One and for this specific role, plus 5 case study questions. For case studies, they suggested looking at consultancy case studies. Then, I had my first online case study interview with an actual person. If that went well, the next step was the final Assessment Centre. This had 3 parts: a Case study, a Product interview where I had to be super creative and think outside the box, and a group-work exercise. In the group work, everyone got different info and we had to figure out a plan together. I didn't get an offer in the end, but the process was pretty organized and the interviewers were nice. Just a heads-up, there was only one interviewer for each part, so they might have their own biases. Also, no motivational interview, which was kinda weird compared to other places. After the Assessment Centre, I had a feedback call with HR to talk about how I could get better.
- Why Capital One?
- Why this role?
- Can you provide some consultancy-style case study examples?
