First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Capital One.
Business Analyst
I spoke with the recruiter first to see why I wanted to work in analytics and at Capital One. Then, I had a preliminary case round that involved a quantitative case study. The main interview day, or 'power-day', had three parts: two more case studies, similar to the first but harder and longer, and then a product discussion where I talked about a digital B2C product I picked.
- Can you describe the product you selected?
- Tell me about the customer base for this product.
- What is the revenue model for this product?
Business Analyst
The interview started with a recruiter chat to see if my background and experience fit the role. After that, I had a case interview where I had to solve a business problem. This involved analyzing data, figuring out what metrics to use, finding the main reasons for issues, and suggesting practical solutions. They also really cared about how I communicate, manage people I work with, and turn requirements into results I can measure.
- Can you describe a past project where you collected requirements, collaborated with stakeholders, and converted business needs into a technical outcome?
- In that project, what challenges did you face, and how did you ensure everyone was on the same page?
Business Analyst
So for the interview process, first I had an HR screening. Then there were 3 business case interviews and 1 product case interview. They also mentioned some cultural interviews will be part of it. Capital One is pretty good about showing you around to different teams and products, just in case the first team you interviewed for wasn’t a mutual fit.
- I was asked to design an alarm clock for a product interview.
- Standard business case questions involved calculating breakeven points.
- Standard business case questions involved analyzing profitability.
