First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Canto Software.
Technical Support Engineer
Applied on LinkedIn. I have 6 years experience as a support engineer. There were four rounds. The first round was with the Support Manager, where they asked basic questions about my experience and CV. They gave me trial access to their API and three tasks to complete. The second round involved discussions about the three tasks, my approach, and my thought process. The third round was with HR. The fourth round was with the Director and VP, focusing on culture fit and a deeper dive into my CV.
- How have you handled API integrations?
Software Engineer
I applied for the Senior Software Engineer role at Canto, Cork via LinkedIn and the whole process took about 2 weeks. It started with a screening call with the director of engineering. Then, I had to complete a take-home exercise. The final stage was a technical interview where we discussed my take-home exercise and some other technical questions. Unfortunately, after the interview, the recruiter ghosted me and didn't even send an email to let me know I wasn't selected, despite me following up a week later. It's fine not to be selected, but a simple email would have provided closure, especially after I spent half my week on the take-home exercise.
- Tell me about your background and experience, and what tech stack you've used.
- Complete the Book Management take-home task, including adding new features, improving UX, implementing CRUD operations, and refining the code.
- Let's discuss your take-home Book Management exercise: why did you implement it a certain way, and how would you change it for future requirements? Any other technical questions.
Senior QA Engineer
It included 2 technical rounds. The first was with the Hiring Manager, focusing on scenario-based questions. This lasted for 1 hour and covered topics like the Cypress framework, API testing methods, and CI/CD integration. The second round was with the QA Lead and a software engineer.
- Questions about the framework
- Questions about Cypress API Automation
- Questions about challenges faced in API automation
Implementation Manager
The interview process kicked off fine. First, a 45 min zoom with the recruiter. I thought the second round would be with the director and happen in the next few days. I let them know my timeline with other companies. After not hearing back for a bit, I followed up and got an invite the next day. The second round interview was decent. It wasn't with the director as I thought, but a good, open chat with another implementation manager. We talked a lot about the job, its challenges, and the team vibe. Luckily, I got an offer from another company and told the recruiter. The evening before my decision deadline, the Director of Implementations invited me for an interview the next day. It was a 30 min zoom, and I told him about my situation before it ended. I then messaged the recruiter again about my status. The next day, I got a generic email saying no offer. Note to team: Practice what you preach and be mindful - the interview process needs improvement. Set your talent up for success -- a lot of us unemployed folk are working odd jobs, crazy hours, to pay bills, to support loved ones, to simply survive. An invitation to interview the evening before a decision has to be made isn't ideal. Prepare -- please look into the candidate before interview day. We can tell when you're looking at a resume/LI profile and are unprepared by the questions asked. It takes life out of the interview, and leaves talent with a poor impression. Please do better.
- Can you start by telling me about yourself and what you're currently doing?
- In what ways do you provide value to your clients?
- Could you elaborate on your specific role during the implementation process at X?
