& Process

The manager was nice and seemed interested in my past work. She explained the job and company culture well, making a good impression. However, the assistant manager was judgmental and uninterested, asking personal questions and being critical of my answers throughout the 1-hour interview. She jumped straight into 'why do you want to leave your current role?' very early on. Even simple questions like 'Does the candidate get to travel in the region?' made her question potential misalignment. HR also seemed disengaged, repeating the same questions as the assistant manager, including why I wanted to leave.

The whole interview thing lasted about 2 months. I had 3 interviews. The first one went fine, so they moved me to the second round. Before that, I had to do a bunch of behavior and IQ tests, plus 4 assessments that I had to present in the second interview. That went great. They gave me a verbal offer and checked my references. They even asked for a reference from my current job, which was weird since I didn't have a written offer yet. I'm glad I didn't listen to them because it turned out they weren't honest. I kept going even with the bad reviews online. They wanted one last interview with a manager from another department. When I met him, I knew the job wasn't for me, and the 'boys club' thing from the reviews seemed true. It was supposed to be a casual chat, but they threw in another test where I had to edit an article and write a profile. I was caught off guard and didn't do my best. They called 3 days later and said they changed their mind because of mistakes in an article. Honestly, that sounds like an excuse. This company isn't in a rush industry where articles need to be done in 30 minutes; usually, employees have days. They were assessing me for a different company, it felt like. If 30-minute press releases were crucial, that test should've been in the second round, not after checking references. The job was for the printer division - how often do urgent issues like 'printers taking over the world?!' pop up? Ha, I doubt it, Canon! The truth is, I had already accepted another offer earlier that week. After the third interview, I knew this place wasn't right. I'm sharing this so others are warned and so you can improve your processes, respect people's time, and plan your tests/assessments better.

Had a call with HR to briefly discuss the role and my background, then a call with a product lead (since the manager is on maternity leave) to go over the responsibilities in more detail.
