First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Canadian Natural.
Project Engineer
I went through the interview process at CNRL Aberdeen, Scotland. It started with a 40-minute recruiter pre-screen call. After that, I was invited to a first interview, which was a one-hour, three-person technical panel interview. Then, a second interview happened a few weeks later. This one was more of a character evaluation, also a three-person panel, and included a presentation from CNRL. They asked questions about the company's Mission Statement and core values. This whole thing took about 90 minutes. The whole process from applying to getting the offer took about three months.
- Describe how you would handle a situation where a senior member of your team had a different perspective or plan than yours.
Engineering
I applied a few weeks before the deadline and got a call for an interview a week later. Three people interviewed me: an HR person, an engineer advisor, and a lead economic advisor. They were all very nice and friendly, making me feel comfortable throughout. The interview had mostly behavioral questions, with a few technical ones where they guided my answers. I got a call an hour after the interview with an offer. It was super fast. Overall, I had a great experience and got into my dream company.
- Can you share an instance where you made an error and describe how you managed it?
- What would you consider your greatest accomplishment?
- How would you assist a colleague facing a challenging situation?
Integrity Engineer
The interview process was smooth and professional, and I felt it went well. However, I didn't get any response from HR or the team after the second interview. I would have appreciated an update on the outcome, especially since the HR lady promised to provide one during the interview.
- What is your definition of integrity?
