Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Calpine.
Billing Analyst
I had one interview that was split into two parts. First, I met with the hiring team, which included the director and two managers. They asked me standard interview questions like 'Tell me about yourself,' 'Why do you want to work here?', and 'Why should we hire you?'. The second part involved answering some brain teaser questions.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your work experience?
Analyst
This was a pretty straightforward process with good people. It started with some rounds of interviews, including a behavioral one, then a technical screening. Be ready to talk about recent coding projects you've worked on and explain them. Also, know why you're interested in this specific opportunity.
- What makes you want to be an analyst?
- Can you describe your recent coding projects?
- What are your motivations for wanting to join our team?
Rotation Analyst
It involved multiple rounds of interviews. First, there was a phone screen, followed by an interview with junior team members, and finally, an interview with managers. HR was slow to respond after each interview stage and often didn't reply to emails. The managers were approachable and didn't expect extensive finance knowledge.
- Could you explain what a Discounted Cash Flow is?
