I had an interview that seemed to go really well, running over the scheduled hour for an extra 25 minutes, which felt like a good sign. But then, weeks passed with no update. I followed up three times with the hiring manager and once with their manager, but ended up getting ghosted by both. I thought I was a perfect fit and was really keen to know the outcome.

The interview process involved an online assessment followed by two in-person interviews, one technical and one HR. The technical interview was with a knowledgeable and friendly technical architect who seemed proud of his work at the bank. However, the overall hiring process took quite a while, and the offered salary and benefits were below market standards.

It was during the peak of Covid 19. First, there were a few emails for some info and forms. Then, an online technical test that took 2 hours. After that, a Skype interview. They gave the results right away, but it took weeks to even get through the initial stages. The online test is easy if you're used to programming competition stuff; the time limit was generous. The Skype interview was unexpected; I thought it would be more of an HR or behavioral thing, but it was technical. I could answer some questions okay, and I was bummed because I actually know the material well and use it daily, but I struggled to explain the core principles, theories, reasoning, and terms. I probably seemed confused and awkward. So, definitely ask your recruiter what kind of interview it is and prepare accordingly.
