I applied for a remote HR role, but unfortunately, I wasn't interviewed because I live in the wrong state. The position is only open to candidates residing in specific states: AL, AK, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NM, OR, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT. It's quite concerning that these are the states without any state-sponsored medical or family leave protections, especially since this was for an HR role that would collaborate with the Manager of DEI.

Behavioral Technical

I went through 2 main interviews, and a third visit for paperwork. The first interview was with the local management team, field supervisor, and a senior field technician. It was a typical getting-to-know-you session, covering my motivations for wanting the job and general personality assessment. It felt very corporate, though they seemed a bit unprepared initially. They told me the next step was an online assessment. The next day, the office supervisor sent me the assessment details. I completed it, and within a couple of days, the regional supervisor set up a second interview. This interview was great; the supervisor was intelligent, kind, and interesting. We discussed the job, my background, and other topics in more detail. It really showed the corporate structure. By the end, I was pretty much offered the job, pending a background check, drug test, and DOT physical. I finished the assessment, DOT physical, and waited for the official offer. The following week, the regional supervisor called to ask if I'd heard from corporate, which I hadn't. He also asked about compensation, which I understood wouldn't be discussed until an official offer. He then shared the hourly rate, which was a huge disappointment – a significant pay cut from my current job and only $11/hr (with a potential $2 increase after a year). I told him I couldn't accept a pay cut. He asked me to think about it and get back to him, mentioning he would contact corporate about a different offer.

So first, they had me take some assessment tests to check my technical and troubleshooting skills. After passing those, I had an interview with the operations manager. She mentioned the next step was a panel interview and that they were ready to make an offer if that went well. Then, I interviewed with two guys. After that, they told me to wait in the lobby for a 'minute,' which ended up being over an hour. Later, a manager came and got me for another interview. Weirdly, it wasn't really about the tech support job I applied for but more about an HR position. When that was done, he just said, 'It's Friday, so folks are heading out, but someone will reach out.' I started my interview at 9:30 am and didn't leave until 2:30 pm. About two weeks later, I got a poorly written, unsigned rejection letter basically saying they weren't moving forward but wished me luck.

The interview process is pretty standard for this industry. You'll need to introduce yourself and talk about what sparked your interest in the role. They'll want to hear about your background and the skills you bring that match the job requirements. You'll also face some 'tell me when' type questions, where you'll need to share an example of a time you encountered a problem and how you handled it. There's a second interview lined up with one of the floor managers.
